Asphalt 7: Heat is a high-speed, arcade-style racing game for personal computers running Windows 8. That qualification might sound a little odd, but it’s true. Asphalt 7 resembles other games for personal computers, but it requires the “App-oriented” interface that was introduced in Windows 8. Unfortunately, the game does not run on earlier versions of Windows.

Asphalt 7: Heat is a very solid game. The overall quality is surprising for a few reasons; not the least being that the game is essentially a port of a mobile title. It is packed with content and very satisfying graphics contributing to the value of the game.

As the name suggests, Asphalt 7 is the latest in a long-running series. The earliest iterations of the game were fairly crude affairs. But the developers have clearly learned a few things along the way as Asphalt 7 is slick and polished throughout.

Boasting 60 different cars from real-world manufacturers, as well as a generous assortment of 15 race tracks, the game puts it all on display while using an interface that would look at home in a typical AAA game. In spite of the superior level of game play, Asphalt 7 carries a mobile-like price tag of only a few dollars.

While players of the Burnout series will have an idea of what to expect: thrilling high speeds and frequent near-misses, Asphalt 7: Heat is not quite as satisfying as fans of Criterion's games might anticipate. However, the game is easier to appreciate on a nice large PC monitor than it was on the smartphones that first gave it a home. The larger displays make it easy to get lost in Asphalt's speed.

The basic game-play delivers as does the structure, giving players a feeling of progression. With a variety of conditions and rules, Asphalt 7 has approximately 150 separate races ensuring player excitement. The better your progress through the races, the faster you earn exclusive cars. Even compared with native games for Windows, Asphalt 7: Heat is an impressive piece of work.
